A Values Based School

Nursery

Whitefield Nursery

Our team is highly trained, experienced and dedicated, with Qualified Teachers, Early Years Educators and Qualified Early Years support staff. We are a values school and offer a wide, rich and exciting curriculum. Our nursery is located within the school itself and provides the perfect stepping stone for children who will continue their school journey with us at Whitefield. Children will already know the reception staff and can do lots of transition work with them which will help the children develop the skills they need to be school ready.

We invite children to join our nursery from the month of their 3rd birthday.

All children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.  This consists of working towards outcomes/goals in the following areas:

Prime Areas

  • Personal, Social and Emotional development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Staff complete some observations during their interactions with the other children and record these in the children's portfolios.

Early Literacy and Phonics

  • Introduction to Sounds: The Nursery is where children first begin to learn about sounds, which serves as the foundation for the formal phonics program that continues into Reception and Key Stage 1.

  • Engagement with Books: Children in the Nursery are encouraged to develop a love for reading by sharing books and listening to stories.

Communication and Language Development

  • Language Skills: Staff in early years (which includes the Nursery) prioritise activities that help children develop essential language and communication skills.

  • Vocabulary Building: Staff are noted for choosing specific vocabulary for tasks and using repetition and recapping daily to ensure these skills are secure before children move into Year 1.

Funding

All 3-year-olds are eligible for 15 hours of free education. Some children of working parents will be eligible for 30 hours of free childcare and education during the term. The 30-hour funding must be applied for on www.childcarechoices.gov.uk the term before funding is required. If successful, an eleven-digit code is given to parents to take to the childcare provider for checking. It is the parent's responsibility to reapply every three months.

We can offer a limited number of flexible spaces - allocated on a first-come first-served basis. These hours can be taken as mornings, afternoons, or a number of full days (depending on individual entitlement and availability). Further hours can be agreed at an additional cost of £4.60 per hour agreed by the Headteacher. These hours are payable in advance and are fixed for a half-term period.

We run two Nursery sessions each day :

A morning session is from 8:30 - 11:30 am

An afternoon session is from 12:30 - 3:30 pm

Children staying for a full day will have lunch in the main school and can either bring a packed lunch or pay for a school dinner. School dinners are £2.40 a day and we request that they be paid in advance. We offer a wide variety of daily choices, including a light option, halal or vegetarian. If you are entitled to Free School Meals and your child is staying for a full day then you can apply for this through - https://www.luton.gov.uk/Education_and_learning/Pages/Free-school-meals.aspx
You can register your child for Nursery from any age by bringing their Birth Certificate to the School Office and completing a registration form.
