Friday 10 March 2023 Reception - Growing Plants Reception are learning about the topic of 'growing' in reception this half term. The children have been very busy planting and caring for cress, beans and sunflowers which is helping them learn first hand about what a seed needs in order to grow and about the process of growth. The children took their cress heads home once they had grown and were set the challenge of harvesting their cress seeds at home, preparing something to eat containing cress.

Tuesday 7 March 2023 World Book Day 2023! What a week we had at Whitefield celebrating different books and authors! Throughout our maths lessons, we explored different books and enjoyed cross-curricular learning. On Friday, all children had the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character and share their favourite books with their peers. We also had a huge number of entries into our Book Review competition and the Senior Leadership Team were very impressed with the vocabulary our children used and the illustrations to match!

Thursday 9 February 2023 Fantastic Finish - Inkpen Class As the FANTASTIC FINISH for this half term, Inkpen class enjoyed learning about Valentine's Day. They baked biscuits and did some Valentine's craft activities. Parents joined them for the final part of the day and they sang them some Valentine themed songs, enjoyed a scavenger hunt in the sunshine, had some refreshments and did some activities together!

Tuesday 1 November 2022 Year 5 WOW Day - Planetarium Experience Year 5 had the opportunity to launch their Space topic this term by having a blast of a 'Wow Day' by Immersive Experiences. The Planetarium was truly out of this world! Children enjoyed 2 shows during the day learning about the solar system, the planets and what it is like to be an astronaut. As well as trying out some Astronaut food and having a challenge to make a moving rover vehicle to explore the moon. The day was a huge success and children had lots of fun.

Thursday 22 September 2022 WOW Day - Reception Children in Reception have been learning about senses. They explored the senses of taste and smell for their first WOW day of the academic year! They completed the blindfold smelling challenge and tasted some jelly too! They learnt new vocabulary such as sweet, delicious, soft, crunchy, sour and bitter. They voted for the best smell in the pot at the voting station, cut out pictures of things they could taste and smell from magazines and tasted lots of different fruit and vegetables.

Friday 10 June 2022 Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Wow! What a wonderful day! The children really enjoyed Whitefield’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Friday with different activities going on across the school including learning about the monarchy and the Queen’s 70-year reign and the creation of some amazing art pieces. Some children came dressed for the occasion and, in Murphy Class, even a corgi was in attendance! We had a delicious picnic lunch and an afternoon of games on the field.

Sunday 5 June 2022 Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant Children from our school, Chantry Primary Academyand Southfield Primary Academy took part in the prestigious Queen's Jubilee Pageant in London! An early start for sure, but a day that will live long in the memories of everyone attending! We couldn't be any prouder of the children! They did an absolutely magnificent job: waving, dancing, high-fiving, smiling (more dancing) and generally, showing every one of our school values. They were such great role models and were praised constantly for their hard work, positivity and great behaviour.

Friday 1 April 2022 Reception - Growing Topic This half term Inkpen class have really enjoyed planting cress, sunflower and bean seeds and observing their growth over the half term. We ‘planted’ the beans in sandwich bags so that we could see the roots and shoots as they grew and we kept a bean diary. The seedlings have now been sent home for the children to nurture and observe their continued growth at home!

Tuesday 1 February 2022 Reception - Chinese New Year 'Kung Hei Fat Choi' to everyone in our community celebrating the Chinese/Lunar new year today. We have had fun learning about this celebration today in our reception classes. We have also been learning about non-fiction texts so we explored a non-fiction book about this celebration to find out lots of facts about how it is celebrated. We enjoyed lots of art and craft and sensory play opportunities linked to the Chinese New Year but best of all was having a go at dragon dancing, playing our instruments and having a taste of fortune cookies and prawn crackers!

Tuesday 18 January 2022 Nursery - WOW Factor - Under the Sea Messy Day 'Under the Sea' was the theme for Nursery's Messy Day! All dressed to get super messy they plunged into the paint and created waves with rollers, waded their hands through foam, hid things under piles of shredded paper and decorated plastic sheeting with their handprints and glittery stuff. Some dinosaurs turned up but got stuck in gloop and bubbles, while others made shiny fish art! Nursery had lots of excited talk about their underworld adventures, and everyone went home suitably messy and tired.

Friday 22 October 2021 Halloween Disco A fabulous time was had by all at our spooky Halloween discos. I’m sure you’ll agree the children look amazing!We made a profit of almost £200 which will be spent carefully by our School Councillors to make improvements around the school.

Wednesday 14 July 2021 Great Whitefield Bake Off Over the past six weeks, staff have been taking part in the ‘The Great Whitefield Bake Off’! We have been treated to some very tasty and delightful entries (all judges are now dieting!!!).

Thursday 1 July 2021 Phonics Morning - Year 1 & EYFS The idea behind our Phonics' morning was to promote a love of reading across Year One and Early Years. The children were invited to come in wearing green or dressed as our Phonics mascot, Fred the frog. The sun shone as we took part in both inside and outside games. The children had a fabulous time... how super are they!

Thursday 27 May 2021 Fantastic Finish - Reception Wow... what a 'Fantastic Finish' Reception have had today! This term they have learned about different animals and their habitats. Today they came into school dressed as animals and have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in fun, animal-related activities!

Monday 19 April 2021 Ark Farm Visit Ark Farm visited our children in Inkpen Class today. The children had a wonderful time meeting and learning about a tortoise, some rabbits, guinea pigs, an African Pygmy hedgehog, a sugar glider, a dog and a barn owl! They were allowed to touch all of the animals except the sugar glider. They had to think about what the animals look like and feel like and we discussed similarities and differences between the animals and what they eat. ?? ?? ?? ?? ??
